Contaminated strawberries advice

Published on 17 September 2018

The Department of Health and Human Services has advised that Queensland Police are investigating the intentional contamination with needles and pins of strawberries in that state, some of which may have been sold interstate.

Public Health Services is investigating whether any of these strawberries have been distributed in Tasmania.

Tasmanians are recommended to throw out any Berry Licious, Berry Obsession, Delightful Strawberries, Love Berry, Oasis or Donnybrook Berries fresh strawberries from interstate growers.

Regardless of the brand, it is recommended to cut up all fresh strawberries from interstate growers before eating for the time being to ensure they have not been contaminated with needles and pins.

The initial brands affected by the contamination, Berry Licious and Berry Obsession, have already been removed from sale and are no longer on the market.

Tasmanians are urged to call Tasmania Police on 131 444 if they discover needles, pins or other physical contamination in their fresh strawberries.
