LGBTIQA+ Reference Group

Expressions of interest (EOIs) for the City of Hobart LGBTIQA+ Reference Group are now closed.

City of Hobart staff is now working on organising the first meeting.

The Reference group will provide advice on the implementation of the City's LGBTIQA+ Commitment as well as identifying potential future actions. The commitment is due to be updated and the group will assist with community engagement as well as providing insights and identify opportunities on issues such as:

  • discrimination and stigma
  • resilience and pride
  • empowerment and voice

LGBTIQ+ Commitment

We celebrate the contributions that LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities make to our municipality and the commitment aims to demonstrate how we continue to support these communities to be proud, visible and responsive to the challenges they face.

During community engagement for the development of the City's Hobart: A city for all - Community Inclusion and Equity Framework, community members called for the development of a dedicated LGBTIQ+ Commitment (the commitment). The Hobart community recognised the City's ongoing support for LGBTIQ+ inclusion and wanted it formalised in a public statement of commitment. This commitment has been developed in response to that feedback.

2023 Dorothies award

In 2023, the City of Hobart was presented with the Dorothies award for Excellence in LGBTIQA+ Inclusive Practice in Local Government - Pioneering Change category.

This award was for the role we have played over a considerable period of time in engaging with LGBTIQ+ communities and showing visible and public support when it matters.

The Dorothies are Tasmania's premier LGBTIQ+ inclusivity awards presented by Working It Out, the state's only dedicated LGBTIQ+ support, advocacy and education service.

TasPride launch - Annual Flag Raising Ceremony

The City of Hobart is a proud supporter of TasPride Festival.

Every year we host the TasPride launch and raise the rainbow flags over Town Hall.
