"Nobody can discover the world for somebody else. Only when we discover it for ourselves does it become common ground and a common bond and we cease to be alone."
- Wendell Berry, author of A Place on Earth
Autumn program 2021
Our autumn program offers great opportunities to get outside, discover new places, and marvel at nature’s interconnectedness as we endeavour to help you see the natural world anew.
With the autumnal shifts in our urban gardens marked by bright displays of change in the canopies and crunching of leaves underfoot, the changes in our bushland reserves are more subtle and filled with even more colour if you know how to look.
Get out into the bush with a discovery walk on kunanyi/Mt Wellington, help create habitat at a nest box workshop or dip into a local waterway and become a citizen scientist for a day or more!
Local mycologist Richard Robinson leads us into the wilds on a search for fungi, slime moulds and will guide us through the relationships between, plants, fungi and life. There are also family fungi forays and workshops on all things fungi.
Waterworks Reserve comes alive for our Where the Wild Things Are nocturnal tours. As the sun goes we delight in the joys and adaptations of the many creatures who venture out foraging and hunting into the night.
We are also offering opportunities to leave the land and take to the river with the sea-kayaking team from Roaring 40s as we explore the unique estuary environment of the River Derwent (timtumili minanya).
The simple choice of spending more time in nature will do you a world of good.
