Temporary road closures

 The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.

Please note: All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982. 

Special events that require a permit from Tasmania Police 

The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police: 

  • motor vehicle race, cycling or athletic events
  • demonstrations or street processions
  • charitable collections.

Please be aware that some road work and emergency activities do not require approval by the City of Hobart.

Campbell Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Campbell Street between Liverpool Street and Collins Street will be closed to traffic from 5 am Saturday 8 September to 6 am Monday 10 September for the purpose of conducting works for Tas Gas.

 

Sun Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Sun Street between Sackville Street and Collins Street will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 4 pm on Monday 20 August 2018 for the purpose of installing transformers.

Billy Goat Lane

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Billy Goat Lane between Quayle Street and Crelin Street will be closed to traffic from 7.30 am to 4 pm daily from Monday 20 August to Friday 14 September 2018 for the purpose of conducting road, stormwater and pedestrian access improvements. The lane will reopen on weekends during this period.

Collins Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 25(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Collins Street between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed to traffic on the following dates for the purpose of conducting construction works at 40 Elizabeth Street:

  • 6 am to 1 pm on Saturday 18 August
  • 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday 19 August
  • 6 am to 11 am on Saturday 25 August
  • 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday 26 August

 Collins Street, Hobart 

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Collins Street between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed to traffic from 8 pm to 12 midnight on Wednesday 22 August 2018 for the purpose of conducting removal of TasNetworks infrastructure.

Apsley Street, South Hobart

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Apsley Street between Degraves Street and 38 Apsley Street will be closed to traffic daily from 9 am to 4 pm on Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August 2018 for the purpose of conducting tree removal works.

Collins Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Collins Street between Campbell Street and Sun Street will be closed to eastbound traffic from 7 am Saturday 13 January 2018 to 6 pm Thursday 29 August 2019 for the purpose of facilitating building construction works.

Bathurst Street (between Murray and Elizabeth streets) and Criterion Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of conducting the Farm Gate Market from 6 am to 3 pm every Sunday during 2018.

Salamanca Place, Hobart

Salamanca Place is closed to traffic each Saturday from 5.30 am to 6 pm under the Salamanca Market By-law for the Salamanca Market. More information can be found here: Salamanca Market website
