Temporary road closures

The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.

Please note: All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982. 

Special events that require a permit from Tasmania Police 

The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police: 

  • motor vehicle race, cycling or athletic events
  • demonstrations or street processions
  • charitable collections.

Please be aware that some road work and emergency activities do not require approval by the City of Hobart.

Andrew Street between Pitt Street and Arthur Street, North Hobart

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Andrew Street between Pitt Street and Arthur Street will be closed to traffic daily from 7 am to 4 pm from Monday 29 March 2021 to Friday 30 April 2021 for the purpose of conducting kerb, channel and footpath reconstruction works.

Chimney Pot Hill Road between Ridgeway Road and Huon Road, and Ridgeway Road between Chimney Hill Pot Road and Waterworks Road, Ridgeway

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Chimney Pot Hill Road between Ridgeway Road and Huon Road and Ridgeway Road between Chimney Hill Pot Road and Waterworks Road will be closed to traffic daily from 7:30 am to 4 pm from 6 April 2021 to 20 April 2021 for the purpose of conducting road side vegetation removal works.

Brisbane Street between Harrington Street and Barrack Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Brisbane Street between Harrington Street and Barrack Street will be closed to traffic weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm on Monday 12 April 2021 to Friday 23 April 2021 for the purpose of road repair works.

Proctors Road between Southern Outlet and Baintree Avenue, Dynnyrne

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Proctors Road between Southern Outlet and Baintree Avenue will be closed to traffic from 9 am to 3 pm daily on Monday 12 April 2021 to Friday 23 April 2021 for the purpose of conducting Works on Adjacent Land. 

 

Wayne Avenue between Sandy Bay Road and Churchill Avenue, Sandy Bay

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Wayne Avenue between Sandy Bay Road and Churchill Avenue will be closed to traffic travelling from Churchill Avenue to Sandy Bay Road from 7 am to 11 am on Monday 19 April 2021 for the purpose of conducting a retaining wall repair. 

Burnett Street, Westbound between Elizabeth Street and Murray Street, North Hobart

Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Burnett Street, Westbound between Elizabeth Street and Murray Street will be closed to traffic from 8 pm to 6 am on the evening of Tuesday 27 April 2021 and morning of Wednesday 28 April 2021 for the purpose of conducting road resurfacing works.

Bathurst Street (between Murray and Elizabeth streets) and Criterion Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of conducting the Farm Gate Market from:

  • 6 am to 3 pm every Sunday.

Salamanca Place, Hobart

Salamanca Place is closed to traffic each Saturday from 5.30 am to 6 pm under the Salamanca Market By-law for the Salamanca Market.
