Temporary road closures

The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.

Please note: All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982. 

Special events that require a permit from Tasmania Police 

The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police: 

  • motor vehicle race, cycling or athletic events
  • demonstrations or street processions
  • charitable collections.

Please be aware that some road work and emergency activities do not require approval by the City of Hobart  

Liverpool Street (from 381 to 395) between  Molle Street and Forest Road

 

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that  a section of Liverpool Street (from 381 to 395) between  Molle Street and ForestRoad will be closed to traffic from:

  • 7am to 7pm daily from Monday 14 September 2020 to Friday 23 October 2020 for the purpose of conducting stormwater upgrades.

Toorak Avenue between Augusta Road and Alt-Na-Craig Avenue 

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Toorak Avenue between Augusta Road and Alt-Na-Craig Avenue will be closed to traffic daily from:

  • 7am to 4pm from Monday 26 October 2020 to Wednesday 28 October 2020 for the purpose of conducting concrete surface repair on Augusta Road at the intersection of Toorak Avenue. Access to Toorak Avenue will be available from Alt-Na-Craig Avenue.

Chimney Pot Hill Road between Huon Road and Waterworks Road

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Chimney Pot Hill Road between Huon Road and Waterworks Road will be closed to traffic from:

  • 9am to 3pm daily from Tuesday 27 October 2020 to Thursday 29 October 2020 for the purpose of conducting tree works to help evacuate in times of bushfires. 

Salamanca Place between Gladstone Street and Montpelier Retreat

Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Salamanca Place between Gladstone Street and Montpelier Retreat will be closed to vehicles travelling eastbound (towards the Silo Apartments) from:

  • 7am on Monday 26 October 2020 to 5pm Friday 06 November 2020

Bathurst Street (between Murray and Elizabeth streets) and Criterion Street, Hobart

Pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of conducting the Farm Gate Market from:

  • 6 am to 3 pm every Sunday.

Salamanca Place, Hobart

Salamanca Place is closed to traffic each Saturday from 5.30 am to 6 pm under the Salamanca Market By-law for the Salamanca Market.
