Temporary road closures

The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.

Please note: All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982.

Special events that require a permit from Tasmania Police

The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police:

  • motor vehicle race, cycling or athletic events
  • demonstrations or street processions
  • charitable collections.

Further information can be found on the Tasmania Police website.

Road closures may also be approved by the Department of State Growth. Further information can be found on the Department of State Growth website. Information regarding the status of Pinnacle Road on kunanyi/Mount Wellington can be found here: Pinnacle Road status
