Temporary road closures
The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.
Please note: All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982.
Special events that require a permit from Tasmania Police
The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police:

Collins Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Collins Street between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of setting up a mobile crane on the street for equipment lifts onto a construction site, at the following times:
- from 7pm on Friday 15 September to 5am Monday 18 September 2017;
- from 7pm on Friday 29 September to 5am Monday 2 October 2017;
- from 7pm on Friday 13 October to 5am Monday 16 October 2017; and
- from 7pm on Friday 10 November to 5am Monday 13 November 2017.
Murray Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(b) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Murray Street between Liverpool Street and Collins Street will be closed to traffic from 1am to 7am on Monday 25 September 2017 for the purpose of conducting concrete pours at the Myer building site.
Bathurst Street (between Murray and Elizabeth streets) and Criterion Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of conducting the Farm Gate Market from 6am to 3pm every Sunday during 2017.
Salamanca Place, Hobart
Salamanca Place is closed to traffic each Saturday from 5.30am to 6pm under the Salamanca Market By-law for the Salamanca Market. More information can be found here: Salamanca Market website
