The State Government has taken control of portions of Davey Street and Macquarie Street (from the Southern Outlet to the Brooker Highway) and the Brooker Highway (from the intersection of Macquarie and Davey Streets to Burnett Street).

What does the Council maintain?

The Hobart City Council continues to maintain the following:

  • All footpaths along these roads
  • Stormwater (within the roads and footpaths)
  • Trees and garden beds
  • Banners
  • The existing pedestrian overpass on the Brooker Highway between Warwick Street and Burnett Street
  • The proposed pedestrian overpass at Brooker Highway and Bathurst Street
  • The Bridge of Remembrance pedestrian overpass over the Tasman Highway towards the Cenotaph
  • The central Railway Roundabout and infrastructure located within the underpass (but not the underpass structure itself)
  • Continued enforcement of parking

What does this mean for you?

Requests for road closures or road opening permits along the portions of Davey and Macquarie Streets and the Brooker Highway controlled by the Tasmanian Government will be subject to the State Roads Division permitting policies.
