Saunders Crescent Playground
The City of Hobart is starting work on a brand new children’s playground in South Hobart.
The playground is being built on council owned land on Saunders Crescent and will include two play towers, slides and a swing set.
It will also include a picnic shelter with table and seating as well as bouldered landscaping that also functions as a relaxed place to sit or play.
Small trees will be planted to provide shade, shelter and privacy for neighbours.
Works start on 5 May 2025 and are expected to take eight weeks to complete.
Playground collective
The new playground is the result of a local community petition by the “Cascades Playground Collective”, who appealed to the Hobart City Council to build this new playground.
In their petition they said:
“A new playground would be hugely beneficial to our community. It would provide the opportunity to build relationships between kids and families and help to ensure our kids can participate in active play.”
Time to play
The play equipment has been designed to:
- help kids develop a sense of balance and spatial awareness
- develop an understanding of speed, space and distances
- experience the joy of movement.
This project is supported by the Tasmanian Government through the Department of Stage Growth.
