156 New Town Road development
The development presently under construction at 156 New Town Road was approved in 2024 under PLN-24-280 and was a permit for demolition, new building for bulky goods sales and business and professional services, and associated works within the adjacent road reserve. This proposal was advertised in accordance with planning legislation and determined under delegation, taking into account the two representations which raised concerns regarding the proposal.
The proposal was to:
- demolish the existing building on the site and to construct a new, two storey building that would contain a showroom on the ground floor and offices on the first floor.
- The proposed showroom would have a floor area of 536m². A car park is also proposed at ground level that would provide 23 spaces.
- The proposed offices would have a floor area of 1053m².
- Vehicular access to the development would be via the crossover at the north-western end of the site frontage. The crossover at the south-eastern end of the frontage would be removed.
In 2022, approval was granted under PLN-22-272 for 19 multiple dwellings and fitness centre (sports and recreation). This was for the same address and had a similar building footprint but different building design. Beyond works to remove underground storage tanks no further development in accordance with this approval has proceeded.
A private building surveyor will be required to confirm at the completion of this work that it has been constructed in accordance with the approved plans, which is the standard process for development.
