Drive
The majority of all trips taken in Greater Hobart are by motor vehicle - private cars, taxis, motorcycles and ride share services.
In fact, Greater Hobart has the highest amount of car commuting of all Australian capital cities.
However, there are opportunities to reduce this heavy reliance on cars by giving people more sustainable choices in how we move, such as making it easier to walk to work through improved pedestrian infrastructure, prioritising bus routes and creating safe cycleways.
We can also make it easier for drivers to move through the city more efficiently by prioritising key roads for local traffic.
We want to create a city where trips made by car or motorcycle are safe, convenient and integrated into our transport system.
To do that we have created a Transport Strategy focused on providing equitable, affordable and safe travel options for drivers.
