Public art equipment for hire

The Nipaluna Ambient Monitoring Station, 2023, Richie Cyngler, which used programmable digital components and external speakers from the Public Art Equipment kit of equipment for hire.

Exclusive to artists wishing to develop or present public artworks within the city, there is a stock of technical equipment available for short-term hire.

This includes projectors, speakers, amplifiers, programmable AV components, projector boxes, power boards and cables.

Creative Hobart supports activating the city with public art outside of key festival periods, however all independent proposals will be considered based upon artistic merit, location, scale, impact and budgetary support.

The equipment is available to artists for public presentation as well as development-stage projects. If the equipment is hired for development purposes, the artist(s) will be required to include an appropriate form of documentation or peer presentation of their process.

There are two hire fee categories:

  • a weekly rate for funded organisations
  • a half-price weekly rate for individuals / non-funded organisations.

An indicative daily commercial rate is provided for comparison.

Artists wishing to hire will need to sign a written agreement, pay hire fees upfront and be subject to late fees should the items not be returned on the agreed date.

The ongoing aim of this initiative is to redirect any revenue made into the ongoing maintenance and purchase of further items for hire.
