City of Hobart Dog Management Policy
The City of Hobart is responsible for managing dogs in its municipal area. We operate within the Dog Control Act 2000 and have recently adopted an updated Dog Management Policy 2019-2023(PDF, 181KB). The policy regulates the use of public areas by pet and non-pet owners aiming to encourage a happy, caring, safe and mutually respectful environment.
The new policy has been developed as a result of an 18-month community consultation period. It provides information on a variety of things including the code of responsible dog ownership, the provision of declared areas such as off-lead, on-lead, training, prohibited and restricted areas as well as guidance on how to register a dog or apply for a kennel licence.
