The proposal is for a cableway with three towers to operate between a base station located on the existing fire trail between Old Farm Road and McRobies Gully, and the pinnacle of Mount Wellington.

The base station would be accessed via a new road off McRobies Road, close to the entry to the Hobart City Council tip. The base station building is proposed as a three-storey structure, providing ticketing and waiting areas, gift shop, amenities, offices, staff areas, car parking, and associated plant and infrastructure.

At the pinnacle, a new four level building is proposed offering indoor and outdoor viewing facilities, interpretation, café, restaurant and function space, a quiet space, amenities, office, and associated plant and infrastructure. This building will necessitate the demolition of the existing observation shelter.

The three towers are between 36m and 55m high. The cable way will have two cabins, each able to carry up to 80 people.
