Elizabeth Mall and Salamanca Square
Elizabeth Mall and Salamanca Square are available for hire by not-for-profit organisations and community groups staging events.
We encourage the use of these spaces for events to entertain the public. Commercial organisations may apply but must abide by the relevant guidelines, by-laws and policies.
The terms and conditions and our Highways By-Law 2008 provide clear guidelines of use and eligibility for the hire of Elizabeth Mall and Salamanca Square. View our Legislation page.

Speakers Corner is at the northern end of Elizabeth Mall, and is a space for people who want to make a public address in a peaceful and lawful manner.
Speakers are permitted each Tuesday and Friday between the hours of 12 pm and 4 pm. Pamphlets and reading material can be displayed for distribution. The materials are to be displayed in a purpose-built/constructed display device with an explanatory sign indicating who you are or who you represent, and where you are from. Pamphlets and reading materials are not to be hand distributed.
If you would like to use Speakers Corner, you need to get a permit from the Hobart Council Centre, 16 Elizabeth Street, Hobart. You will need to show personal ID when you apply and must agree to follow the terms and conditions. On the day you are speaking, you need to report to the officer in the Elizabeth Mall Information Booth with your permit.
