The City of Hobart welcomes the announcement of the new Federal cabinet, and congratulates the Federal Labor Government on its historic win at the recent election.

Hobart looks forward to collaborating closely with the re-elected Anthony Albanese Government to drive meaningful change and support our mission of working together to make Hobart a better place for the community.

The City is keen to further explore opportunities to work with the new cabinet - including Tasmanian representative Julie Collins - to advance our city's priorities and to importantly ensure that Hobart gets our fair share of funding, to get the best possible outcome for the people of Hobart.

While acknowledging and thankful for the Government’s election funding commitments for the Rivulet Regeneration Project and the Domain Tennis Centre upgrade, the City of Hobart also presented a comprehensive suite of advocacy priorities, that went unfunded.

Quotes to be attributed to Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds:

“We would like to congratulate Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his team on a historic victory at this month’s federal election.

"However, it would be remiss to not point out that Hobart was largely overlooked when it comes to funding. Moving forward, we remain hopeful that our much-needed projects will be fairly assessed and receive the support they deserve.

"Hobart's priorities, such as the Kunanyi / Mt Wellington upgrades, housing and urban development, a dedicated basketball facility at Rugby Park, the University of Tasmania's STEM development, and the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre roof funding, are crucial for the growth and well-being of our community.

"It is essential that Hobart receives its fair share of federal funding to ensure that our city continues to thrive and provide the best possible environment for our residents and visitors.

"We urge the federal government to recognise the importance of these projects and to invest in the future of Hobart.

“Our community deserves to see these vital improvements come to fruition."
