The City Welcome Volunteer Program is currently looking for friendly people to join their team.
Becoming a volunteer is a great way to give back to the local community, learn new skills, make new friends and help people. Our volunteers provide a warm and friendly welcome to visitors arriving in Tasmania, and can assist with general information and travel recommendations.
Our volunteers can be found at Salamanca Market, Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre, MAC 02 Cruise Ship Terminal, and at the Hobart Airport. It's a rich and rewarding role that suits people who are friendly and confident and who like meeting and helping people, from all walks of life.
Roles can vary depending on where you volunteer, but could include:
- providing a warm welcome and greeting visitors on arrival
- provide advice and recommend things for people to do in Hobart while visiting
- provide information about the location of shops, services and facilities
- providing visitors with key tourist information in Tasmania, referring visitors to the Travel Centre for bookings and sales
- help people find specific stalls at Salamanca Market, or the nearest amenities or ATMs.

Volunteers within our program are highly valued by the City of Hobart and are fully supported and mentored while they gain experience and learn the role. For many, it builds social connections and increases their confidence, all while learning valuable skills and an introduction to the tourism industry.
For visitors, our volunteers provide a warm welcome and friendly advice from a local. Helpful advice is essential to making their holiday easier, smoother, and more enjoyable. With a few handy tips or answers to their questions, our visitors will be able to make the most of their visit and hopefully thoroughly enjoy their time in Tasmania.
