Tasmania’s Recycle Rewards program may have just been launched but already the Scouts have big plans on how to make the best use of it.
The program will see participants receive 10 cents for every eligible bottle or can collected, which can either be turned into a deposit to your bank account, a voucher for a participating retailer or you can donate to your favourite charity or organisation.
Scouts Tasmania already has big plans on how they will use their collections.
“We’re excited that Recycle Rewards is now live in Tasmania,” Scouts Rover Luke Bosworth said.
“Working together, we can care for the environment and raise important funds.
“Every eligible drink container we collect goes toward helping Scouts buy safety equipment, repair trailers, and subsidise costs for getting to Scouts events like the Jamboree.
“Scout youth, their families and Scout volunteers regularly collect litter on hikes, walks and we participate regularly in recycling and clean up events.
“These will be just some of the ways we collect containers for Recycle Rewards.”

Hobart’s Climate, Sustainability and Biodiversity Committee co-chair Councillor Bill Harvey said it was great to be part of this program.
“This initiative also aligns with our zero waste strategy for 2030 and our Climate Ready Hobart Strategy,” Cr Harvey said.
"We encourage community groups to unite and self-organise to collect containers, enabling them to fundraise and generate income through the Recycle Rewards program as well as improving Hobart’s environment.
“With drink containers making up over 45 per cent of Tasmania's litter, Hobart residents and visitors can significantly reduce waste and boost recycling by participating in Recycle Rewards."
The container refund scheme has got off to a flying start, with more than 250,000 containers deposited on the first day and over a million containers by the end of the first four days.
