Ability to Create

Ability to Create 2025 - InvisAbility logo

Our Ability to Create (ATC) program has been running for the past 10 years. This is a flagship model for access, inclusion and creativity for the City of Hobart. It provides an opportunity for diverse community groups and artists with disability to showcase their creative expression through an exhibition program. ATC is an inclusive platform for:

  • enhancing a sense of place
  • nurturing creativity
  • celebrating artistic excellence
  • connecting creative people.

We have engaged with professional artists across disciplines to mentor and support the ATC artists and organisations to strive for excellence. We aim to develop this exhibition program by increasing visibility, accessibility and connectivity to mainstream creative arts practice.

International Day for People with Disabilities

IDPwD 2022 logo

For over two decades, we have been involved in hosting events for International Day for People with Disabilities (IDPwD). Traditionally held on 3 December, the IDPwD celebrations is a feature of the City's annual calendar. It showcases creative talents of people of all ability.

Each year we provide opportunities to:

  • connect with the community
  • activate public spaces
  • provide opportunities for skill development
  • increase understanding of inclusion
  • strengthen our community through shared experiences.

It was 1992 when the United Nations General Assembly declared 3 December as a day to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of people with disability, communities throughout the world have joined in the celebration.

Many of the activities being delivered in the lead up to and including 3 December are outcomes of the City of Hobart Equal Access Commitment and delivered in conjunction with the Access Advisory Committee and IDPwD local working group.

The community are invited every year to come and experience Hobart and take part in celebrating activities as we work towards inclusion and equity for all who live, work or play in Hobart.
