John Turnbull Dog Park shelter and accessible picnic table

We are building a new shelter and a wheelchair accessible picnic table at John Turnbull Park.

The shelter will create a comfortable space for dog owners when they need protection from the rain and a shaded area to keep out of the sun.

This work was prompted by ongoing community feedback, particularly from the Dogs of John Turnbull Park Facebook group, requesting a sheltered area where dog owners can comfortably watch their pets play, especially during wet and hot weather.

The shelter and accessible picnic table will improve comfort, accessibility, and usability of the dog park, making it more inclusive and welcoming for all users.

Work is scheduled to start on Wednesday 30 September 2026 and is expected to take two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

During this project

Work will take place 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. 

All areas of the park will remain open to the public, but please follow local signage near the construction area.

The John Turnbull Dog Park is a dedicated space where people and their dogs can enjoy exercise, play and social interaction in a safe, off-lead environment.
