BackFlowID training and drop-in session

We invite you to attend a free BackFlowID training session and/or drop-in session.

The sessions are open to all licensed plumbers holding Backflow Prevention accreditation and any administration staff who are involved with Backflow prevention within your business.

When: Tuesday 24 March

  • Training session: 2 - 3.30 pm – may be eligible for 2 CPD points through CBOS
  • Drop-in session: 3.30 - 4.30 pm – hands-on tag and testing/see how the app works

Where: Mornington Skills Centre, 9 Takari Place, Mornington

Who should attend: licensed plumbers holding Backflow Prevention accreditation, as well as any administration staff involved with Backflow

About the training session

The training will provide an overview of the processes involved in testing and tagging backflow prevention devices in the field using the new BackFlowID software rolled out by the City of Hobart (may be eligible for 2 CPD points through CBOS).

About the drop‑in session

This session will provide hands-on testing and tagging backflow prevention devices in the field using the new BackFlowID software rolled out by the City of Hobart and a view of the app and how to use internally for your business, great opportunity for the administration staff to see the app in use to see how easy it is.

BackFlowID is a secure, interactive asset‑tagging system that simplifies registration and ongoing management of testable backflow prevention devices.

The City of Hobart are happy to arrange site visits with one of our Plumbing Compliance officers to run through the process in a live environment for any companies wishing to use the software. We are also happy to guide users and administration staff within the system.

Request a plumbing inspection

Our convenient online booking system makes it easy to schedule your plumbing inspection.

Please be aware that before a plumbing inspection can be booked, the following must be in place:

  1. A valid Plumbing Approval or Certificate of Likely Compliance (Form 19).
  2. A Start Work Notice (Form 60) must be lodged with the City of Hobart and approval granted to the plumber booking the inspection.
  3. Final inspections, additional documents are required prior to the inspection:
    • Standard of Work Certificate – Plumbing Work (Form 71B)
    • As Constructed Drainage Plan (if applicable) and must be lodged on PlanBuild

Please ensure a licensed plumber must be on site for all inspections.

Please note: a minimum of 24 hours notice must be given when booking an inspection.

If additional plumbing inspections are required, an additional fee may apply. This can be found in our fees and charges.

All plumbing works are assessed against the categories of plumbing work. This determination of Categories of Plumbing Work can be found on the Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) website.

The category of plumbing work is a risk-based assessment:

  • Category 1: low risk work that an owner or competent person can undertake.
  • Category 2: low risk work that a plumber can undertake without needing inspection by the City of Hobart.
  • Category 3: notifiable work that cannot commence until the City of Hobart has issued a Certificate of Likely Compliance and the plumber will need to notify the City of Hobart when the work is ready for inspection at each mandatory notification stages.
  • Category 4: high risk work that must be inspected by the City of Hobart.
