Urban Sustainability Grant

The Urban Sustainability Grant offers a maximum of $15 000 per project for activities that:

  • increase resource recovery
  • reduce the volume and type of waste otherwise directed to landfill
  • promote or undertake initiatives to increase energy efficiency
  • actively address or promote air and water quality improvements
  • support the development of sustainable community food gardens and local biodiversity projects
  • support academic or community research into any of the above.

This program is available to schools, community groups and businesses.

All applications are assessed against the assessment criteria. It is important to note that meeting all criteria does not guarantee that an application will be successful.

To start an application you will first need to register online with SmartyGrants. Click 'Apply online' below and then 'Log In' on the following page. You can then register as a user and start your application. From this page you can also preview the application form.

Urban Sustainability Grants

The Urban Sustainability Grant supports community-led activities that develop solutions to climate change and sustainability issues.

Amount: up to $15 000

Funding to support projects commencing between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027

Applications open: Wednesday 25 February 2026
Applications close: 5 pm Friday 17 April 2026
Notification of outcome: June 2026
