Queens Walk footpath

The City of Hobart is building a new footpath along Queens Walk to create a safe route to nearby bus stops, sporting grounds and recreational tracks.

The footpath is being built between Risdon Road and Stainforth Court and will be wide enough to accommodate pedestrians, bike riders, parents with prams, people in wheelchairs, runners and dog walkers.

Why this project matters

The new footpath is the result of a local petition calling for a safe and dedicated footpath continuing from Cornelian Bay to Risdon Road.

The footpath will make it easy to walk, ride or run to nearby Rugby Park, New Town Rowing Centre and the newly rewilded New Town Rivulet and its foreshore tracks.

Twenty one native trees will be planted to replace the seven to be removed under this project. We will plant a mix of blue gums, Risdon gums, white peppermints and gums.

What to expect

  • Work is scheduled to start on Wednesday 1 July and expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.
  • Construction hours are 7 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Traffic management will be in place. For your safety please follow all onsite signage and directions.
  • Our staff may be wearing protective equipment onsite as a precaution against historical soil contamination. For your safety please do not enter the construction site.

Support for project

This $450,000 City of Hobart project is supported by a $152,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government’s Vulnerable Road User Program.

The City of Hobart has committed $298,000 to the project.
