Hobart in Music: The Collective
Amount funded: $5000
Hobart in Music: The Collective is a Collective of Five Community Choirs and two Community Bands to provide a fundraising Concert to support the work of the Hobart City Mission. There has been a 55 per cent increase requesting support in Southern Tasmania this year. Choral Productions Tasmania Inc. is taking the lead to develop the organizational structure and management coordination with Hobart City Mission. All money raised goes directly to Hobart City Mission Emergency Food support program. The Choirs and Bands are giving their time and paying their own costs so the funding raised supports Hobart City Mission in Southern Tasmania.

Candlelight Vigil 2027

The Candlelight Vigil is held annually to remember and honour those who have lost their lives to family violence with a candlelight ceremony on Parliament Lawns in nipaluna/Hobart. The event is organised by the network of Southern Tasmanian Domestic and Family. Violence Services (DVCC), with simultaneous candlelight vigils held across Tasmania, Victoria, ACT, Western Australia, Queensland, and South Australia. The event aims to bring together communities in order to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and honours people who live with, resist and survive violence.

Hobart Newcomer Community Video Guide Series

Hobart Newcomer Connect is a community-led video series designed to support new migrants and visitors in navigating essential aspects of life in Hobart. Through co-designed workshops, participants will identify key challenges such as public transport, tax registration, cultural engagement, and accessing mental health services. Short, accessible videos will be produced featuring community members, practical guidance, and multilingual subtitles. The series will be distributed online and via local community organisations, fostering inclusion, resilience, and participation. This initiative empowers newcomers, strengthens community connections, and delivers measurable, lasting social impact aligned with Hobart's Community Inclusion and Equity Framework.
Lifeline Tasmania Inc.
Out of the Shadows
Amount funded: $2000
Out Of The Shadows is an annual event run by Lifeline Tasmania, which provides people the opportunity to remember those lost to suicide, by walking out of the shadows and into the light (of the sunrise). The event is free and provides those bereaved by suicide a safe and inclusive space to remember their loved ones, while also connecting them with others in the community who have experienced similar loss, and information on Lifeline Tasmania's mental health support programs. On average the event has around 150 individuals attend, and anyone is welcome to participate.

NICU Connections in Hospital

NICU Connections is a hospital-based support program designed to help families navigate the emotional, social, and practical challenges of having a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It links parents with trained staff, peer mentors, and community resources, providing education about NICU care, coping strategies, and infant development. The program encourages family involvement, strengthens communication between parents and clinical teams, and promotes bonding during prolonged hospital stays. NICU Connections aims to reduce stress, build confidence, and improve outcomes for infants and their families across critical early life stages and care transitions.

Garba Night 2026

Garba Night is a vibrant cultural event celebrating the traditional folk dance of Gujarat, bringing together diverse communities to experience Indian music, dance and heritage. The event will feature live Garba and Dandiya Raas performances, cultural music, and interactive participation for all ages and skill levels. Delivered in a safe, inclusive and family-friendly environment, Garba Night encourages social connection, cultural exchange and active community participation. The event aims to strengthen multicultural understanding, foster community cohesion, and provide an opportunity for the wider Tasmanian community to engage with and celebrate Indian traditions in a welcoming and accessible setting.

Teej Celebration (Teej Together 2026)

"Teej Together" is a community-led women's empowerment event celebrating the Nepalese festival of Teej. The event will bring together women from diverse cultural backgrounds in Hobart for a day of cultural connection, wellbeing, and social inclusion. Activities will include traditional music and dance, games, talent showcases, and recognition awards for women in business and community leadership. A traditional meal (Daar) will be provided to participants. The event is designed to create a safe and inclusive space that reduces social isolation, strengthens cultural identity, and promotes community participation, while encouraging cross-cultural understanding within the broader Hobart community.

Hobart Model Boat Show

The Hobart Model Boat Show is a free, all-age community event celebrating maritime craft and Tasmanian heritage. Organized by the Rotary Club of North Hobart, the show promotes social inclusion and local connectedness through volunteer-led participation. The event will take place on Saturday 3 April 2027, at the Kickstart Arts Centre in New Town. Set within the heritage-listed St John's Park (built in 1831), this symbolic venue serves as a hub for arts and wellbeing, providing the perfect backdrop for this inclusive celebration of local creativity and history. (Note - date changed since Kickstart Arts provided documents).

FKAT 40-year community event

This event is a free, family-friendly community gathering for foster and kinship carers, and children and young people in their care. Delivered during the school holidays in Hobart, it provides a welcoming space for connection, celebration, and informal peer support. This is to celebrate 40 years of FKAT empowering and uplifting carers, their voices, and CYP in their care. In lieu of a carer conference, the event offers an accessible alternative that strengthens community identity, reduces isolation, and supports carer wellbeing. Through shared activities, food, and connection, the event fosters belonging, recognises carers' contributions, and enhances participation in Hobart's community life.

Bloom & Belong Garden Program

We are planning a courtyard upgrade to create a safe, engaging, and therapeutic garden for residents, many living with dementia and other challenges. Access to well-designed outdoor spaces improves wellbeing, reduces anxiety, and encourages meaningful activity and social connection. We are seeking grant funding for essential materials, including wheelchair-accessible raised garden beds, plants, soil, and gardening equipment, as well as slip-resistant, accessible flooring. We also plan to paint a mural, engaging a local artist and residents in its creation. These improvements will support gardening activities that foster purpose, stimulate memories, and promote gentle physical activity and engagement.

Helping Hobart Help Wildlife

Helping Hobart Help Wildlife is a community education and volunteer development program delivered by Wildlife Network Tasmania. The project includes a public information night to educate residents on how to respond to injured wildlife and pathways into volunteering. Participants will be supported to complete Intro to Mammals training, with new volunteers receiving Wildlife First Response Starter Kits to assist in early-stage care. The project also includes community promotion and a follow-up online session. By combining education with practical support, the program strengthens Hobart's wildlife response capacity and improves outcomes for injured native animals.

BSA Soccer Tournament 2026
BSA Soccer Tournament 2026 is a two-day community sporting event organised by the Bangladesh Student Association for Bangladeshi students, UTAS students, and the wider Hobart community. The tournament will bring teams and spectators together through friendly soccer matches, volunteering, and community participation. The activity aims to promote physical wellbeing, social connection, inclusion, and multicultural engagement in Hobart, while creating a welcoming space for students and community members from different backgrounds to connect through sport.
Barbershop Harmony Australia Tasmanian Region
Harmony Spectacular Community Workshop/Performance
An a cappella workshop led by Melbourne-based Mixed Signals quartet, Australian 2025 Gold Medallists. Community choirs have been invited, and we are promoting the day across Hobart. BHA members will also participate in the workshop. In the evening, a concert highlighting Mixed Signals and other local ensembles, with workshop participants performing and celebrating the a cappella skills learned. The day will finish with a social function at a local bar, where singing will be the theme, and promoting the opportunity for singers to build networks.

Battery Point Community Christmas Party
An inclusive afternoon Christmas Party for community members and friends. The party aims to heighten participation and connectedness across the Battery Point community, providing the opportunity for residents and businesses, especially those who might be less able to get out and about, to mix and share love and laughter during the festive season. Food and beverages (non-alcoholic) will be provided to attendees, in an atmosphere of much Christmas spirit and conviviality.The party will be held on Sunday 7 December from 3:30-5:00 pm in the Battery Point Community Hall and adjacent Henslowe Park.

The Annual TAS Community Growing Conference, on April 21 is proudly presented by CGA in partnership with Grow It Local and Permaculture Australia and is a one-day celebration of everything that makes community food growing powerful, practical and deeply connected with a program designed to inspire both new and experienced growers alike. Hosted by Costa Georgiards from Gardening Australia we will present a vibrant program of speakers, workshops, amazing healthy food and a tours of Hobart's Community Gardens on day 2, the Conference will also provide networking opportunities for local community gardens, gardening groups and individuals alike.

Generations Connect Fun Day, event hosted by COTA Tasmania, celebrates intergenerational joy during the April school holidays, and also Global Intergenerational Week. This lively gathering fosters connections between young people and elders, promoting understanding and shared experiences. Featuring playful activities, games, collaborative arts and crafts, exercise, dancing, and singing, it creates a vibrant space where different generations can learn, laugh, and bond. This unique celebration honors the wisdom of older generations while nurturing a sense of community, leaving lasting memories for both young and old.

Battle of the Specialties
Battle of the Specialties is a fundraising night held for health professionals and medical students at the Royal Hobart Hospital, with all proceeds from the event going towards the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. This event will be a games-night with a silent auction component, held in the greater Hobart region on 17th July from 7pm. Last year our event was able to raise over $5500 for our charity of choice 'Variety', so we are excited to see what positive impact we can have this year!

SOLI: A Father’s Day concert by Ensemble Mania
Hobart-based contemporary classical music group Ensemble Mania will present a concert celebrating Father’s Day. The event, titled SOLI, will take place on the evening of September 7 at the Battery Point Community Centre and will be dedicated to the memory Ian Flynn, father of local composer and concert curator Dominic Flynn. As such, the program will feature a work Dominic has written to honour his father, alongside other unconventional duos from some of Ensemble Mania’s favourite Tasmanian composers. These pieces will be performed by some of Hobart’s most exciting musicians, in addition to two uniquely skilled interstate performers.

HBC Social Badminton Tournament 2025
We aim to host a social badminton tournament for new and existing migrants to connect and socialize. Past events show migrants build friendships, meet community leaders, and access job networking opportunities. It also allows them to engage with local Hobart residents and experience new cultures. Hosting at STBA introduces newcomers to the venue, encouraging regular visits and bringing others, which supports STBA’s growth and benefits local businesses.

Entertainment Night 2025 will be held on 22nd August at the C3 Convention Centre, welcoming over 350 families and engaging local residents, leaders, and businesses. This inclusive, multicultural event promotes cross-cultural understanding through traditional performances, family-friendly activities, and local food stalls. Featuring six international performers, the night will showcase vibrant dance and music for an audience of around 600 people. The event aims to strengthen community bonds and celebrate Hobart’s cultural diversity in a safe, welcoming environment.

Awurudu Ulela 2026 – Sri Lankan Cultural Festival for the sixth consecutive year. The event highlights Sri Lankan heritage through traditional games, cultural performances, music, and delicious food, creating a festive atmosphere for families and friends. Attendees will experience customs like the lighting of the oil lamp, the Awurudu Kumari (Queen) pageant, and various fun-filled activities. Indian New Year Festivals 2026
The 'Indian New Year' celebration unites diverse communities, coinciding with Easter week, blending cultures. Known by different names across India, such as Puthandu, Ugadi, Baisakhi, and Gudi Padwa, it reflects cultural diversity. Indian Festival Association of Tasmania (FEST Inc.) seeks the Hobart City Council's grant to host the 'Indian New Year Festival' for the third year in Lenah Valley. The event gathers the Indian diaspora and local communities, promoting mutual understanding and cultural appreciation. Activities include an inaugural ceremony, exhibitions showcasing traditions, cultural performances, and a traditional lunch representing various Indian states, providing a unique cultural experience in one place.

Science in the Pub
The Science of Creation
We will have three musical and visual artists give talks about the science and technical details behind the creation of their projects. This includes a modular synthesist, and oil projection artist, and a 3D-mapping projection artist. The artists will give interactive talks followed by a Q&A with the audience. The second half of the event will have the artists perform in a combined two-hour show so that the audience can see how the technical and scientific aspects come together to create a beautiful live work of art.

Imagining a Climate Positive Lutruwita Art Project
As a part of a previous Tasmanian Conservation Trust (TCT) and Environment Society collaborative event engaging the Hobart City community on climate-positive future for Lutruwita Tasmania, the TCT collected responses from the community on what their ideas are for this future and our Hobart community. We would like to expand our questions to the broader Hobart community via social media and commission an artwork based on these responses to reflect back what the community sees for climate action and a positive image of the future we can aim for. This would then be launched at a community event.

Christmas Carols 2025
Many Australians experience heightened social isolation and loneliness during the Christmas and New Year period, particularly those with limited family or community connections. This project will create an inclusive celebration in Hobart, bringing together the most isolated community members to experience belonging, friendship, and joy — the true spirit of Christmas. Through shared meals and cultural exchange, the event will strengthen social ties and promote wellbeing. The Multicultural Women’s Council of Tasmania identified this need through its close engagement with diverse communities, where many individuals report increased isolation during the festive season.

For the Mid-Autumn Festival event, we will invite other community groups from different cultural backgrounds to participate. The event will include traditional Chinese games and cultural activities such as calligraphy, painting, and dance performances. We will be planning to invite Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Dr. Zelinda Sherlock to attend the event together to celebrate the Chinese traditional mid - autumn festival.

With the coming New Year 2026, we provide indoor activities for the international student and immigrants from overseas to relax, enjoy and integrate into local community and feel Hobart is their new home. Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese cultural celebration. It usually includes dragon boat races, traditional Chinese food such as zongzi (rice dumplings), and cultural performances. The event may also feature Chinese calligraphy and painting, allowing people to experience traditional Chinese arts. The purpose of the festival is to celebrate Chinese heritage and community spirit. Through celebrating this festival, more people in the community can learn about Chinese culture, build friendships, and enrich the multicultural life of Hobart.
