Increasing the tree canopy
Hobart's tree-lined streets are a valued part of our quality of life. They are achieved through excellence in planning, design, installation. Our trees are cared for by both the City of Hobart and our community.
Our Street Tree Strategy guides the planting and management of Hobart's public trees. It sets an ambitious target to increase the canopy cover across urban areas from 16.7 per cent to 40 per cent by 2046.
We have a tree planting program that runs across the city throughout the cooler months to help meet this target.

State of the Canopy report
Tree canopy mapping shows Hobart lost two per cent of its canopy cover on private land over a five year period between 2017 and 2022.
The tree canopy mapping used satellite imagery to map the change in overall tree canopy cover. The results have been published in the State of the Canopy report.
