Pets and animals

The City of Hobart is responsible for managing dogs, horses, goats, cows, sheep, pigs and injured wildlife in Hobart.

We create a caring, happy and safe environment for dogs and minimise their impact on other people, animals and the environment. We do this by following the Dog Control Act 2000 and the City of Hobart Dog Management Policy.

We work with a number of organisations including:

Keeping animals

Owners all of animals must follow the requirements outlined in the Environmental Health By-Law.

Animal management after-hours service

We provide a 24-hour service to help locate the owners of dogs wearing City of Hobart registration tags that are found roaming the streets and attend dog attacks or injured animals.

For after-hours assistance please call 03 6292 4205.
