The Myer City of Hobart Christmas Pageant was a great event this year and there were over 50 fabulous entries. 

The Christmas Pageant brings thousands of people into the city to watch the colourful, festive parade, and this year's celebration was no exception.Thank you to everyone that participated and to everyone that lined the streets to cheer on the entrants.

The judges would like to commend everyone that entered the pageant and for all of the wonderful community spirit, the fabulous costumes and for the time and energy to bring the displays to life. After much deliberation the winners have been decided.

We are thrilled to welcome beloved children's entertainer Zindzi & the Zillionaires to headline this year's Christmas Pageant.

Zindzi & the Zillionaires are bright, fluffy and full of positive energy which will get your toes tapping and dancing to their incredibly catchy songs.

Zindzi will is well known to many from her time on Play School and most recently with her fabulous Zillionaires and her new hit single 'Move Your Body'. Her ARIA-nominated performance, blends upbeat R&B grooves with themes of friendship, family, and fun – perfect for the festive season. The Zillionaires are all about encouraging confidence, kindness, empathy, and imagination. To be a Zillionaire is to be rich in joy, love and kindness.

Our special guests include Santa and his mischievous elves. Following the pageant, from 12 - 2 pm, children and families are invited to Myer for a special opportunity to meet Santa and capture family photos.

To help entertain the crowds before the pageant starts, the following musicians will be performing on the streets around the pageant route, from 9.30-10.30 am.

Free parking

Free parking at the Regatta Grounds

Free parking will be available at the Regatta Grounds and a shuttle service will be available from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on pageant day. Please see the tab on Park and Ride for more information.

Free street parking

There will be free parking on the street on Pageant day in the Hobart CBD. Please note: the CBD is the area within the borders of Brisbane Street, Harrington Street, Davey Street and Campbell Street.

City of Hobart parking meters in the CBD will display this message on the screen - Free today Xmas Pageant.

EasyPark will display a message when a parking space within the free area is entered  - Christmas Pageant (Free Parking Saturday 22 of November only). 

Additionally, TasPorts will provide free parking in 2P spaces on the Hobart waterfront on Hunter Street, along Franklin Wharf, and in the Morrison Street and Salamanca Wharf car parks.

All other parking meters outside the CBD will operate as normal.

  • Open: 6.30 am – 10 pm
  • Closed for entry and exit between 9 am – 1pm due to road closures.

Centrepoint Car Park

  • Open: 8 am – 5.15 pm
  • Closed for entry and exit between 9.15 am – 1.15 pm due to road closures.

Hobart Central Car Park 

  • Open: 8 am - 5.30 pm
  • This car park is not affected by road closures.

Dunn Place Car Park 

  • Open: 8 am - 8 pm
  • This car park is not affected by road closures.

Melville Street Car Park

  • Open: 9 am - 4 pm
  • This car park is not affected by road closures.

Park and Ride from the Regatta Grounds

Free parking is available at the Regatta Grounds.

A free 'Park and Ride' shuttle bus will be running from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on pageant day, in a continuous loop between the city and the Regatta Grounds. The service is expected to take around 15 mins each loop and passengers can get on and off the bus at any of the stops listed below:

The shuttle bus is wheelchair accessible. Prams are welcome.  

 

Pageant map

The pageant will begin on the corner of Argyle Street and Liverpool Street at 10.30 am.

It will make its way down Liverpool Street, before turning up Harrington Street, and then onto Collins Street.

It will finish on the corner of Argyle Street and Colins Street at roughly 12 pm.

Accessibility

Accessible viewing area 

  • An accessible viewing area is located opposite the Judges Stage at the Corner of Liverpool and Elizabeth Streets. 
  • A drop-off point for the accessible viewing area is located on the corner of Bathurst and Elizabeth Streets. 
  • A white picket fence and pageant signage will indicate the viewing area. 
  • Space for wheelchairs and seating is provided. 
  • Pageant Crew are available at the viewing area if you need assistance or have any questions or concerns. 

Accessible parking 

  • Parking spaces are available for people who hold a 'Transport Access Scheme Parking Permit' and require parking closer to the pageant route. These spaces are located on Collins Street, between Harrington and Barrack Streets (approximately five spaces). 
  • There will be free parking at City of Hobart car parks (Argyle Street, Centrepoint and Hobart Central), CBD parking meters and the Regatta Grounds (see 'Free Parking' drop-down above for more information). 
  • A free shuttle bus will run between the Regatta Grounds and Franklin Square from 9 am to 2 pm. The bus has 18 seats and one wheelchair space (see 'Free Parking' drop-down above for more information). 

AUSLAN 

The MC and Judges located at the pageant stage (opposite the Accessible Viewing Area) will be AUSLAN interpreted. 

Guide dogs and service animals 

  • Guide dogs and service animals are welcome at the event. The welfare of the animals is a high priority. Please ensure you consider their needs, including water, shade, hot pavement, sanitation, and the crowds at the viewing area if you decide to bring them along.

Sensory information 

  • The Myer City of Hobart Christmas Pageant draws many spectators annually across the busy Hobart CBD. 
  • Attendees can expect large crowds, loud noises, bright lights, and sirens.

For minor medical attention please speak to one of the pageant staff, easily identified by their hi-vis vests or Medical Edge First Responders, located in Elizabeth Mall.

The pageant Info & Help Desk will be located in Elizabeth Mall next to the Mall Booth.

If you need assistance or have any questions or concerns, please visit the Info & Help Desk, and we will be happy to assist.

Health and safety

Events in Tasmania are no longer regulated by specific COVID-19 Public Health Guidelines. However, events must still be conducted safely and in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of local government, workplace health and safety regulators, and others.

Please consider the following before attending this event:

  • Stay home if you are unwell.
  • If you become unwell at the event, please leave the event.
  • Where practicable keep some distance from other people or social groups.
  • Wash and sanitise your hands.
  • You are welcome to wear a face mask. Wearing a face mask can reduce the risk of catching or spreading viral infections, especially when space is limited. Particularly consider wearing a face mask if you are at risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and/or the community incidence of COVID-19 is moderate or high.

Weather

The pageant is an all-weather event. The event will run rain or shine – unless weather conditions become extreme or dangerous and pose a serious safety risk. Please check the forecast and plan ahead. 

Road closures

The assembly area for pageant groups will be located in the block surrounding the Royal Hobart Hospital. This area will be closed to regular traffic from 7 am to 1 pm. Additionally, the pageant route and surrounding streets, will be closed to all traffic from 9 am to 1 pm.

Hospital access on Pageant day

Access to Royal Hobart and Hobart Private hospitals for emergency vehicles between 8.30 am - 12.30 pm, will be from Liverpool Street at the Brooker Avenue roundabout. Members of the public requiring access to emergency hospital treatment are asked to follow the instructions of Tasmania Police and Traffic Management Staff. Please use the crossing point on the corner of Argyle and Liverpool streets to access both hospitals.

Water stations

Taswater are providing free water stations for the pageant so everyone can bring a water bottle and fill up as needed. The water stations will be located at:

  • Mathers Place -  6 Criterion Street, behind Criterion House
  • RACV Hotel -  154-156 Collins Street
  • Collins Court - 134 Collins Street
