Parking fines
Parking fines (or infringement notices) are issued to the owners of vehicles who break parking rules.
As a driver, you have a responsibility to check which rules apply and to follow them.
You can pay a parking fine online, in person, by phone, or by mail.
More information on each payment method can be found in the tabs below.
Please note: parking fines are unable to be paid online until the day after they were issued.
How to pay a parking fine
Online
To proceed you will need to provide your notice number as shown below, and enter the amount you are required to pay.
Click the button below, and select Infringement Notice from the dropdown menu.
You will need a credit card to pay online. Parking infringements must be paid in full.
Pay online
In person
You will need your parking fine (infringement notice), or the vehicle licence plate number.
Visit us at the Hobart Council Centre, 16 Elizabeth Street (corner Davey and Elizabeth Streets), Hobart. We are open from Monday to Friday, 8.15 am – 5.15 pm. Cash, Visa or Mastercard only.
Pay by cash, EFTPOS or cheque at any Australia Post location.
Please note: you can't pay overdue fines at Australia Post.
By phone
Find your Infringement Number on your parking fine, and have a payment method ready.
Please note: over the phone we only accept Visa or Mastercard.
You can reach us for phone payments of parking fines at 1300 886 745. We're available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
By mail
The letter to the City needs to include your:
- name
- address
- Infringement Number
- vehicle licence plate number

Requesting a review
You can request a review of your parking fine in some circumstances.

If you were not the driver
If somebody else was using your vehicle, you will need to provide a statutory declaration. This must include the name, address and date of birth of the driver so that the fine may be directed to the offender.
If you don't do this, you are liable for the infringement notice.
When do you have to pay
There are two types of parking fines, each with different due times.
The front of the notice will tell you what type of fine it is.
Parking meter and voucher fines
You must pay within 14 days of the date of the notice if it comes under the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982.

Road Rules fines
Road Rules infringements must be paid within 28 days of the date of the notice.
After the 28 days, recovery proceedings will begin. The amount payable will increase in respect of all outstanding offences. If the fine remains unpaid, it will then be referred to the Monetary Penalties Enforcement Service.

Overdue fines
You will be deemed convicted if within 28 days of the date of issue, you do not:
- request your fine be withdrawn
- lodge a notice of election for a court hearing.
Your fine will then be enforced under the Monetary Penalties Enforcement Act 2005. This means:
- you will have to pay more money
- could have your driver licence or vehicle registration suspended
- your name and address could be published (which may affect your credit rating).
