Mellifont Street road resurfacing

The City of Hobart will be resurfacing the bottom section of Mellifont Street, West Hobart, during April and early May 2026.
The roadworks begin on Thursday 16 April 2026 and will be carried out from 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday over three stages.
The road will remain open outside of these hours and on weekends.
Stage 1: 16-24 April
The right lane of Mellifont Street heading towards Hobart between Arthur and Newdegate streets will be closed for roadworks. The opposite lane will remain open to traffic.
Stage 2: April 27 to May 2
The left lane of Mellifont Street heading away from Hobart between Arthur and Newdegate streets will be closed for roadworks. The opposite lane will remain open to traffic.
Stage 3: 4-11 May
The left lane of Mellifont Street heading away from Hobart between Newdegate Street and Cato Avenue will be closed for roadworks. The opposite lane will remain open to traffic.
Please follow all local traffic directions to help us ensure this is a safe work place.
- There will be a reduced speed limit in place 7am to 4pm.
- Access for local residents and businesses will remain open, but there may be delays.
- Footpaths within the project area will remain open.
- On-street parking will be restricted at times.
- Overnight parking will not be impacted, but vehicles must be removed before 7am each day.
Roads to recovery project
This project is being jointly funded by the City of Hobart and the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Program.
The program supports the construction and maintenance of the nation's local road infrastructure assets, which facilitates greater accessibility and improves safety, economic and social outcomes for Australians.
The Australian Government has contributed $236,336 to this project and the City of Hobart $207,562.
