Get involved with Bushcare

Bushcare-Get-Involved.jpg

Our Bushcare program is filled with fun activities that connect people with nature.

Our volunteers care for and protect Hobart's native plants, animals, bushland reserves and waterways by:

  • removing weeds
  • creating and restoring local wildlife habitats
  • planting trees, shrubs and groundcovers
  • monitoring weeds, habitats and threatened species.

You don't need any experience or skills to become a Bushcare volunteer – just enthusiasm, commitment, good physical mobility and a sense of fun! It helps if you love getting your hands dirty too!

Our experienced (and very friendly!) Bushcare Team Leaders will be on-site to provide training and technical advice. They will bring the tools and equipment and will even provide tea, coffee and biscuits!

Families and children are very welcome.

Aged 16-18?

If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 you can volunteer without a supervising guardian present – as long as your parent or a guardian has signed the Registration Form.

If you want to come to Bushcare without an adult, please email the Bushcare team to let them know that you are under 18 and provide the name of your parent/guardian approving your attendance. Then ask your parent/guardian to please complete the registration form (the instructions are under the Getting started dropdown). Or come along with a parent to your first working bee and let the team leader know.

Children under 16 must have a parent or guardian present and supervising at every activity.

What to bring

Come ready to help with fully-enclosed, sturdy footwear, a long-sleeved shirt and long pants, a hat, drinking water and sunscreen.

Don't forget your warm clothes in the cooler weather! A warm jacket suitable for wearing around prickly bushes and under branches (not a puffer jacket) is best.

All tools, gloves and equipment are supplied by Bushcare.
