Hobart has been ranked as the number one small city in the Asia Pacific region, ahead of all other cities in our part of the world. It was also among the Top 10 Best Small Cities in the World (under 350,000 population) in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards.
This global recognition—based on votes from over 750,000 of international travellers—is a powerful endorsement of Hobart’s unique charm, liveability, and growing reputation as a cultural and lifestyle destination.
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the accolades reflects the city’s proud identity as a small capital with a big heart.
“We’ve long celebrated Hobart’s unique status as a small city—compact, creative, and deeply connected to nature and community. To be recognised globally for those very qualities is incredibly affirming,” Cr Reynolds said.
“This ranking is a nod to our people, our place, and our priorities. It shows that Hobart’s scale is a strength—and that our city’s warmth, walkability, and cultural vibrancy are resonating with visitors from around the world.
“These awards also reinforce our strategic direction.
“It tells us that Hobart’s story is compelling on the world stage—and that our focus on inclusive growth, sustainability, and creativity is the right one.”
Sarah Kingston, CEO Tourism Tasmania added; “Hobart offers something truly special—accessible nature, world-class produce, and a community of passionate makers and chefs.
“This acknowledgment reflects the growing appeal of Tasmania and specifically Hobart from a worldwide audience, and helps to drive awareness and consideration as a desirable holiday destination.”
The City of Hobart extends its thanks to Condé Nast Traveler readers for their votes and to the local community for continuing to make Hobart a city worth celebrating.
