Elizabeth Street bus stop upgrade

Eliazabeth-Street-bus-stop-widening.jpg

We are widening the bus stop on Elizabeth Street just outside the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre to make it easier for travellers to hop on and off their bus and to reduce crowding during busy travel times.

The bus stop is used by the popular Red Decker tourist bus, Coal River Valley Explorer Bus and other bus services, including Gray Line.

For a full list of buses using this stop please see the map.

The work is scheduled to start on Wednesday 2 September 2026 and is expected to take two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Work will take place 7 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

During this project

  • A temporary bus stop will be in operation further down Elizabeth Street towards the waterfront.
  • Four parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable.
  • There will be a partial closure of one lane of traffic in Elizabeth Street in the immediate work zone. Expect traffic delays for this small stretch of road.
  • The footpath will remain open but pedestrians may need to detour around the construction site.

For your safety please follow all local traffic management directions.
