Hobart Bike Plan
We are working on a comprehensive vision for safe, accessible, active routes through Hobart – the future Hobart Bike Plan.
The Hobart Bike Plan will build upon:
It will also align with bike planning efforts by the Tasmanian Government and our neighbouring Greater Hobart communities. These documents include:

2025 Hobart Neighbourhood Greenways Study
In 2025, the City of Hobart hosted Oliver Oglesby, a fellow from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
His role was to help us understand:
- Where are people currently cycling?
- Where are streets best for cycling?
- Where are people likely to shift from a car to cycling?
- Where are people likely to face barriers to cycling access?
The outcome of his work was the 2025 Hobart Neighbourhood Greenways Study. This is part of the work in progress on the future Hobart Bike Plan.

This study was completed during a ten-week fellowship with the City of Hobart as part of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. The effort advances our priorities of climate action and transport choice. It does so by suggesting a network of safe, accessible, active routes through Hobart's suburbs.
The fellowship was conceived around analysing and collecting data to help us better understand where investments in the bike network can achieve the highest uptake of new bike trips. In promoting data-informed decision-making, the project aims to identify important changes to neighbourhood connections that can increase cycling for short trips – particularly for people who face transport inequity.
The final report delivers recommendations focused on developing a network of Neighbourhood Greenways. This is being further developed as part of the Hobart Bike Plan.
