Creative Hobart Strategy

A city that leads with creative thinking, champions courageous decisions, and connects people through shared stories and expressive public life.

Creativity is central to Nipaluna (Hobart)'s identity, wellbeing, economy and future. The Creative City Strategy provides the long-term vision for how we support creativity, culture, artists, communities and places.

The strategy guides our work across arts and events, public art, grants, venues, live music, storytelling and cultural development.

Why a Creative City?

Creativity helps shape how we understand place, connect with one another and imagine what comes next. The Creative City Strategy recognises creativity as a vital public asset and a long-term investment in the city's resilience, wellbeing and character. It reflects extensive engagement with artists, young people, community members, cultural organisations and our staff.

Four ways we support creativity

Champion

Advocating for creativity and strengthening Hobart's creative identity.

We elevate Tasmanian Aboriginal leadership, improves the visibility of cultural activity, advocates for creativity as essential to wellbeing and prosperity, and celebrates Hobart as a UNESCO City of Literature.

Custodian

Caring for cultural assets, stories and creative communities.

We support long-term investment, preserves cultural identity and strengthens the foundations of Hobart's creative ecosystem.

Curator

Connecting places, seasons and communities through creative experiences.

We foster programming that reflects Hobart's stories, neighbourhoods and natural environment.

Catalyst

Making it easier to experiment, create and participate.

We reduce barriers, supports live music, encourages innovation and activates diverse spaces across the city.
