Here are six jobs to put on your to do list this month straight from our City of Hobart nursery expert Chris Barton.

Plant your spring bulbs

Daffodils and tulips have hit the nursery shelves, making now the ideal time to get them in the ground for a bright spring display.

Get brassicas growing

Pop in your broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower while there's still some warmth to give them a growth boost.

Keep an eye out for cabbage moth, which usually appears from mid‑April.

Prepare for alliums

Start prepping beds for mid‑autumn planting.

Garlic is beginning to arrive in stores, so get your soil ready for a successful crop.

Save seeds from summer produce

Collect seeds from favourite tomatoes and other summer fruits by scooping them out and drying them on paper towel – perfect for next season's planting.

Keep your garden clean

Good garden hygiene goes a long way.

Rake up fallen leaves and remove old fruit from beneath trees to reduce hiding spots for overwintering pests and diseases.

Feed and freshen up your lawn

Autumn is a great time to feed your lawn and over sow any bare patches.
