In a cosy corner of Hobart's Murray Street, a small business is quietly building a reputation not just for beauty services, but for heartfelt community care.
Stella Arden, a boutique retail store at 290A Murray Street, is the heart and soul of owner Alexandra Johnson, a beauty therapist/cosmetic tattooist known for her expertise in eyebrow care and her unwavering commitment to community.
As part of the City of Hobart's Warm Hearts campaign, Stella Arden is being recognised for its thoughtful, behind-the-scenes generosity.
"We just want people to feel good — whether they're walking past our window or walking through our door," Alexandra said.
"If someone's having a tough time, we try to do something small that might lift their day."

That might mean slipping a handmade resin heart into a customer's purchase, or offering a complimentary brow treatment to someone in need.
Alexandra often provides free services to people going through hardship — without fanfare or expectation.
City of Hobart employee Joanne Palmer experienced this firsthand during her cancer treatment.
"I was recommended to contact Alexandra when I lost my eyebrows during chemo," Joanne said.
"She booked me in, gave me a brow treatment, and even provided tools to help me feel like myself again—all free of charge. She wouldn't accept a cent.
"That kind of kindness is rare."
Alexandra, a cancer survivor herself, says giving back is simply part of who she is. "I know how hard things can get. If I can help someone feel a little more like themselves, I will."
Inside Stella Arden, the atmosphere is warm and inclusive.
Thoughtful window displays and handwritten quotes are designed to catch the eye and lift the spirit of anyone passing by.
"Retail can be tough," said Alexandra.
"But we're passionate about what we do. If we can make someone smile, that's a win."
The Warm Hearts campaign celebrates stories like these — moments of quiet generosity that reflect Hobart's community spirit.
As we make our way out of the cold of winter, Stella Arden reminds us that kindness doesn't need to be loud to be powerful.
