The Hobart City Council recognises the right of the community members to be informed and have input into decisions which affect their lives.
Hobart City Council values effective engagement in developing a positive relationship with its community and recognises that public participation contributes to better decision-making.
Council seeks to take account of the views, needs, issues and aspirations expressed by the community and to balance these with other influences such as budgetary constraints to make informed decisions.
In applying its Community Engagement Policy, the Council will demonstrate its vision, mission and values.

The comment period for this community engagement process has now closed and the Council thanks the community for its input.
The Future Use of Vacant Land, 106 Cascade Road, South Hobart community engagement attracted a high-level of interest and a large volume of responses.
All feedback is currently being compiled and analysed in preparation for a report to Council for their consideration in May 2012.
The Hobart City Council would like to thank all participants who provided feedback on the designs to improve the sportsground lighting at North Hobart Oval.
Further advice will be provided on the outcome of the Councils consideration of this matter.
The Hobart Rivulet Park Strategic Master Plan is nearing finalisation. The Council thanks residents, rivulet users and groups for the comments received on the plan during the public exhibition period. The plan is to be submitted to September's Council meeting for final adoption
The public consultation process regarding proposed changes to the hours during which alcohol can be consumed in some of Hobart's parks has now closed. The Council thanks residents and groups for the comments received on the proposed changes during the consultation period.
All feedback will be included in a report to be submitted to the Council in November. Further advice will be provided on the outcome of the Councils consideration of this matter.
The Hobart City Council would like to thank all participants who provided feedback on the Gehl Architects Report 'Hobart 2010 Public Spaces and Public Life - a city with people in mind'. Submissions are currently being considered and will be one of the many inputs used by the Council in developing an Action Plan, based on the Gehl Report.
