Dog registration and microchipping
Dog owners must register their dog with the City of Hobart, and have their dog microchipped.
Registration renewals
The dog registration period is between 1 July and 30 June the following year. Renewal notices will be issued prior to the expiration of your dog's registration. Please pay the renewal fee and update any incorrect details. This will make sure that your dog remains registered and the records accurate.
If you don't pay the registration fee, it means that your dog is not registered, and you may receive an infringement notice (fine).
Registration renewal payment options can be found on the make a payment page:

Microchipping
Once your dog is six months old, you can take it to a vet or authorised person in an animal welfare shelter to get it microchipped. This is a safe and painless procedure.
Once your dog has been microchipped, your contact details and the details of the dog are forwarded to the national registry. You will be given a Certificate of Identification, which will include the microchip number. Please let us know this number as soon as possible.
