From creative performances to outdoor adventures and splashy fun, there's something for everyone. Here's your guide to what's happening in the City of Hobart.

Staycation at the Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal's Staycation program is back, transforming the Theatre Royal, City Hall, and TMAG into a buzzing creative playground. This year's theme, Things with Wings, features a spectacular lineup of performances and workshops from local legends and national stars.

Highlights include:

  • Duck Pond by Circa – a reimagined Swan Lake
  • Bees and Paper Planet by Polyglot Theatre – immersive wonderlands for kids
  • The Adventures of Peacock, Chicken and the Pony They Rode Upon by Second Echo Ensemble
  • Feathers by Terrapin – a ferret on a quest to find his flock

Youth Activation at Elizabeth Street Mall

When: 1-3 pm on Wednesday 1 October
Where: Elizabeth Street Mall

Join Mission Australia, Tasmania Police, and the City of Hobart for a vibrant youth event designed to build community connections and celebrate young people.

Expect:

  • Basketball
  • PlayStation car racing
  • Snap-on nails
  • Chill-out zone with bean bags
  • Music, prizes, and giveaways
  • Free food and drinks

Bush Adventures Program

Led by passionate educators, the Bush Adventures program invites families to discover Hobart's beautiful bushland reserves.

These hands-on experiences help children connect with nature, learn about the environment, and spark curiosity.

School Holiday Splash at Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre

When: 11.30 am - 3.30 pm on weekdays

Dive into fun with rotating splash activities including:

  • Giant inflatables
  • Slides
  • Diving boards
  • Play zones

Prefer a quieter vibe? Chill Out Hour runs from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm with all the fun minus the music.

There's also the Intensive Holiday Swim Program.

This 5-day program offers daily 30-minute lessons focused on skill development, water confidence, and safety awareness in small class sizes.

When: 8.15 - 10.45 am from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October
Price: $119 or $95 concession

Knocklofty tracks

Spring Walks at Knocklofty Reserve

Just 3 km from the city centre, Knocklofty Reserve offers stunning views and peaceful bushland.

Choose from a range of walking tracks:

  • Mount Stuart Loop – 3.7 km
  • Knocklofty Summit Loop – 4.1 km
  • Reflecting Pond Walk – 2.7 km
  • Janets Pond Walk – 1.4 km (easy)

Perfect for a spring stroll with the family.


Community Bake Day at Legacy Park

When: 11 am - 4 pm on Sunday 5 October

Bring your favourite recipe and cook in the wood-fired ovens with help from the Oven Coordinator.

While your food bakes, kids can enjoy the nature-based playground, climbing wall, discovery gardens, and more.

Legacy Park is fully accessible and perfect for a relaxed family picnic.
