Financial Hardship Rates Relief
The City of Hobart has developed a $3.5 million Community Support Package to assist ratepayers and businesses experiencing hardship due to COVID-19.
Assistance for ratepayers
- Interest and penalties will be deferred for ratepayers having difficulty paying the fourth installment of rates payments for the 2019-20 financial year.
- Council has adopted a Financial Hardship Assistance Policy(PDF, 214KB) to provide assistance to ratepayers suffering financial hardship by providing an appropriate level of relief from rates.
- A freeze on general rates and most fees and charges for the 2020-21 financial year.

*As required under section 77 of the Local Government Act 1993 (Tas), the details of rates remissions granted by a council are to be included in the grants and benefits listing of its Annual Report. Where the remission (or total remissions for that property in the financial year) is $4,000 or greater, it will be included individually and include the amount of the remission, the property address, the name of the property owner and that it is pursuant to the City’s Financial Hardship Assistance Policy. Rates remission of less than $4,000 will be aggregated.
