Zig Zag Track restoration
The Zig Zag Track restoration project has been successfully completed.
The project was undertaken over three summers using local stone and gravel. The detailed track work was carried out by City of Hobart 'trackies', as well as specialist track builders from local Tasmanian firms.
The Zig Zag Track is a short but challenging hike that starts at 750 metres above sea level. It snakes its way up to the top of Kunanyi / Mt Wellington.
It takes visitors up through subalpine and then alpine country. There are views of towering rock pillars and the River Derwent, out into Storm Bay.
The 100-year-old track is one of Tasmania's finest short walks.
Finalisation of this project completes seven years of major trackwork on Kunanyi / Mt Wellington. It has seen the restoration of the Pinnacle Track, the Organ Pipes Track and the Zig Zag Track.
