Rates and Charges Policy

Rates and charges comprise approximately 65% of annual revenue for the City of Hobart. In setting rates and charges we must balance the need to fund existing services, the demand for increased services, and the need to maintain and renew essential infrastructure with the desire to keep increases to rates and charges to a minimum.

The City of Hobart uses the revenue collected from rates and charges to fund more than 300 programs and services and provide infrastructure and maintenance services expected of a modern well serviced capital city.

Our Rates and Charges Policy(PDF, 1MB) explains how rates and charges revenue is calculated and what programs and services rates revenue funds. To see the policy in person, visit the Hobart Council Centre at 16 Elizabeth Street, Hobart.
