Zig Zag Track upgrade
The City of Hobart has completed repairs to the Zig Zag Track on kunanyi/Mt Wellington as part of recovery efforts from the flood event that hit Hobart in May 2018.
The Zig Zag Track is the quickest way to walk from The Springs to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington and features spectacular views over the River Derwent and Hobart.
Background
The flood event that hit Hobart in May 2018 damaged 40 kilometres of walking tracks and fire trails across the city’s bushland reserves including within Wellington Park, Knocklofty Reserve, the Queens Domain, Lambert Gully and Bicentennial Park.
The city was quick to respond, spending $1.67 million to repair the damage to tracks and other bushland infrastructure.
The work has been funded through the Australian Government’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements with major contributions from the Tasmanian Government and the City of Hobart.
Upgrade works
The upgrade included storm recovery works on the lower and upper sections of the Zig Zag Track.
