South Hobart Community Centre
New Centre, New Website, New Opportunities in South Hobart
The newly built multi-purpose community space will be open for online bookings from 20 July and has been designed and built with the local community in mind. The South Hobart Community Centre provides a vibrant public space, co-funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund; City of Hobart and the South Hobart Progress Association.
The original motivation for the project came from community members with full support from business, children’s groups and schools in the local community. The South Hobart Community Centre offers new and exciting opportunities for events, programs, and community gatherings with a new undercover outdoor area integrating the centre with the adjacent park.
The design of the centre will accommodate up to 50 people (currently less capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions), providing an indoor/outdoor feel for small to medium gatherings. Creative planning and consultation has seen the building design incorporate a tree that’s been growing for almost 50 years, which has been preserved and embraced by a contemporary curve and glass frontage. The Community Centre will provide a vibrant hub for South Hobart residents and groups as well as satellite communities.
