Aberdeen Street Pedestrian Crossing
The City of Hobart is constructing a new raised pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Aberdeen and Liverpool streets on the Queens Domain.
The crossing will improve accessibility for both cyclists and pedestrians and will link the new footpaths adjacent the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre and through the University Rose Gardens.
To ensure the safety of workers and the public, it is necessary to close the intersection during the construction period.
Work to realign the kerb and improve the footpath on the northern side (Aquatic Centre side) has been completed. We have also improved stormwater infrastructure and installed fibre optic conduit to the Aquatic Centre. Work is now underway to realign the kerb on the southern side.
It is anticipated that the works will be completed in the week commencing 17 February 2020, with the current Aberdeen Street closure remaining in place until this time.
Access to properties in Aberdeen Street will be via the Brooker Highway or Davies Avenue.
The City will make every effort to minimise disruption, subject to construction and safety requirements. While temporary traffic management arrangements are in place, road users are asked to comply with directions given and signs placed for guidance at the beginning and end of the affected areas.
We thank Glebe and Domain residents and stakeholders for their patience while these important pedestrian improvements are being undertaken.
