Development in bushfire prone areas
Planning applications in bushfire prone areas will generally need to demonstrate that risks to people or property from bushfires can be minimised.
You must make sure that residential lots and dwellings can be defended during all but the most extreme bushfire events. This means providing a defendable space around dwellings, adequate access for fire-fighting vehicles and adequate water supply.
You can demonstrate your bushfire readiness with a bushfire hazard management plan that has been drafted by an accredited person. The Tasmanian Fire Service website provides more details on building for bushfires.
Requirements for vegetation clearing to meet the Building Regulation 2016 should be considered at the planning application stage, to make sure that future buildings meet the vegetation clearance requirements of the Hobart Interim Planning Scheme 2015.
