Hobart will receive some more Christmas cheer this year thanks to the recipients of our Christmas Quick Response grants.

The grants of up to $1000 are available for community and not-for-profit organisations to present Christmas activities that help the community: Christmas Grants

The Singing Shed Christmas Project

14 Nov – 12 Dec

Over four weeks, men are given the opportunity to learn three Christmas songs in four-part harmony, finishing off with a public concert including other acts, also a performance around the wards at Calvary Hospital.

Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch 2017

25 Dec

Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch 2017 provides a free traditional Christmas Lunch to people in need in the south of the state. Every guest receives a gift on the day with hampers provided for those who are unable to come. Transport is arranged for those needing assistance to get to the venue.

Carols by Candelight Event

Community Christmas Garden Carols by Candlelight Event will be held on Saturday 16 December and will involve two choirs, an instrument group leading the singing of traditional Christmas carols. Areas will be available in our garden for picnics and some children activities will be provided.

The Governor of Tasmania has invited school children from predominantly low-SES communities to attend a Christmas Party hosted at Government House. TYO's training ensemble, Academy Strings, has been asked to perform as part of the day's entertainment.

New Town Primary School

Night on the Green

8 Dec

A celebration of New Town Primary students' year with an outdoor Christmas themed concert. Families are invited to bring a picnic tea, rugs etc and enjoy some dinner while being entertained by class items performed on a stage.

Carols at the Royal

13–21 Dec

'Carols at the Royal' is a series 4 x 1 hour musical performances in public areas of the Royal Hobart Hospital in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Each performance will involve a duo of musicians: Tiff Norchick, (harp, vocals) and Shelley Cusiter (guitar, harmonies); and Hannah Irawan (vocals) and Will Parcell (guitar).

Salamanca Square movie and family fun to celebrate Christmas

Family fun night in Salamanca Square to celebrate Christmas and to allow the local community to share in the festive spirit. Free Christmas movie night with a children's movie - Arthur Christmas - playing on the large screen TV and children's entertainment and activities.
