THREE days of activities, roving entertainment, tours, and more will energise Hobart’s waterfront this weekend as part of the City’s Out in the Open program.

Starting at lunchtime on Friday 20 May, a long program of events and entertainment will stretch the entire length of the waterfront from Salamanca Place to MACq01 and Hunter Street, running until 6pm each evening.

“This fresh, new Out in the Open program is about encouraging Hobartians to enjoy our city’s open spaces, celebrating our community and this spectacular city,” Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.

With over 12 pockets of live performance on the waterfront, more than 60 local performers are set do what they do best – entertain! There will be a variety of fascinating tours available throughout the day that invite exploration of the precinct and all it has to offer.

Some of the other events on offer throughout the weekend include circus skills workshops on Saturday and Sunday, Captain Long John Underpants causing mayhem, maritime bridge openings, tours of some of the majestic heritage boats that occupy the waters around the area, and a winter wonderland as Mawson’s Huts are covered in snow.

“We’re really looking to make this a fun, festive weekend,” Lord Mayor Reynolds said. “Most of the activities are free for everyone to enjoy. The Plimsoll Gallery is open and the Maritime Museum will be doing tours. The first-ever Aboriginal tour of nipaluna has added an extra event for this weekend, and the restaurants, bars and cafes are ready to keep us fuelled with delicious Tassie produce.”

The Hobart Waterfront Weekend is a collaborative effort and has been enthusiastically supported by numerous waterfront businesses. The City has partnered with TasPorts to make the weekend an action-packed and joyful event.

TasPorts is pleased to support the City of Hobart’s initiative to activate the waterfront precinct at the Port of Hobart and encourage increased visitation and participation for our waterfront business community. TasPorts facilitates many events every year that utilise the waterfront areas from Princes Wharf to MAC 02.

Out in the Open is a City of Hobart initiative consisting of a series of events, activities, performances that respond to the times.
