Fern Tree bushfire risk community consultation

Published on 19 January 2018

The City of Hobart will hold a community briefing on 31 January to engage with Fern Tree residents about the risk of major bushfires.

The City of Hobart manages the wet forest areas of Wellington Park bordering the community of Fern Tree. The City has progressively applied recommendations of the Tasmania Fire Service and established fuel breaks close to houses in the dry eucalypt forest areas in other reserves. The wet eucalypt forests of Wellington Park pose a difficult challenge in major bushfire events, and the application of the Tasmanian Fire Service's fuel break recommendations in this reserve will require careful planning and engagement before works begin.

A Community Briefing will be held on Wednesday 31 January at the Fern Tree Community Hall from 6 pm – 8 pm to discuss the current threat information, and what action residents and the City of Hobart can undertake to protect life and property in the event of a major bushfire.

Fern Tree residents are invited to attend this community briefing. Please RSVP through the Your Say Hobart website here: Your Say Hobart.
