Public health

To protect the wellbeing of our residents, the City of Hobart provides an extensive range of public and environmental health programs and services.

These include public immunisations, food safety, education and training programs, tattooing and ear piercing businesses emergency management and infectious disease investigations.

We are responsible for the implementation and enforcement of legislation to meet our statutory public health and environmental health obligations.

Food safety

We investigate concerns relating to food businesses within the Hobart municipal area. Find out more, or make a complaint about suspected food poisoning here.

Asbestos

If you have a concern relating to asbestos on a neighbouring property, please let us know by filling out a complaint form here.

Notifiable diseases cause illness through transmission from an infected person, animal or even food or water. We investigate cases of disease to control and prevent the spread of disease. Find out more here.

Recreational water

Water in swimming pools, spa pools, and swimming beaches. is required to be tested to make sure it is safe for public use.

Smoke-free Hobart

The City of Hobart has a number of smoke-free areas to encourages residents and guests to make healthy choices and promote healthy behaviours in support for people who have or are trying to quit smoking.

Unhealthy housing

The City of Hobart can observe and record unhealthy housing conditions to assist in determining the health impact, and then make recommendations based on that information. Find out more here.

Immunisations

Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way to protect people against certain diseases. The City of Hobart conducts free immunisation clinics for children at the Hobart Town hall each month.
