Weddings and events in the City's parks
The City of Hobart has some great parks and gardens to consider for your wedding ceremony. If you decide to hold your wedding or wish to run an event in one of our parks, you will need to make a booking.
Tentative bookings are held for 14 days and a booking deposit of $50 may be applied before your booking is confirmed, which will be deducted from the hire fees.
Some events may require approval from the Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee, which means you would need to lodge an application at least two months before the event.
In addition to the hire fees, you may also be required to pay a bond. This will be included in your invoice and is held for the duration of the event. Once we have inspected the site after the event, the bond is refunded via cheque. This bond may also cover unreturned, lost or damaged keys.
To enquire about availability, or to discuss your event, please phone 03 6238 2886 before lodging an application.
For other City of Hobart-managed facilities suitable for weddings and events, see the Halls and Venues page.
Depending on the type and scale of event, you may require some or all of the following permits:
- temporary occupancy certificate
- temporary place of assembly licence
- temporary food permit
- liquor licence/s (City of Hobart permission to serve or sell liquor on its property, and licence under the Liquor Licensing Act 1990).
Fees may apply to each permit and some will need to be obtained from external organisations.
Permission is required if you want to erect marquees or similar structures in parks, gardens, reserves or sporting grounds, and structures cannot be staked into the grass.
You may also need to provide:
- public liability insurance
- venue/site plan
- risk management plans
- security management plans
- road closure applications
- traffic management plans.
