International Women's Day at the Loop

Gather at The Loop, the City’s digital art platform at 157 Elizabeth Street, to celebrate IWD 2020 co-presented by WIFT (Women in Film and Television) Tasmania and the City of Hobart.

The program includes a panel discussion covering some of the pressing issues affecting Tasmanian women today, a livestream of sessions from the All About Women event at the Sydney Opera House and a presentation of short films curated by WIFT Tasmania. 

WIFT Tasmania is the local chapter of the national organisation WIFT Australia, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to achieving gender equality in the Australian screen industry through research, advocacy, education and support for filmmakers.

Please note that the event is free and Hobartians of any gender or background are invited to take part.

IWD and activism: can we smash avocado and the patriarchy?

A line-up of special guests will cover some of the most urgent issues affecting Tasmanian women today. How can IWD be used as an opportunity to advance advocacy and support grassroots causes, instead of just a social occasion?

Speakers include: broadcaster and law student Grace Williams, filmmaker Catherine Pettman, Wo Mo organiser and Tasmanian Convenor of the Australian Republic Movement Angela Wilson and gender rights advocate Saffire Grant.
