Australian Red Cross workshops

Disaster Ready – 2 Workshops

The Disaster Ready workshop was targeted at community service providers who support vulnerable people across the Hobart, Kingborough, Glenorchy, and Derwent Valley areas.

The workshop provides participating organisations with the tools to:

  • make good decisions during a range of emergency scenarios

  • act during an emergency without relying on emergency services

  • feel confident in keeping staff, volunteers, and service users safe in an emergency

  • engage staff, volunteers, service users and their families in emergency planning.

A total 34 participants attended the two workshops, representing community organisations providing homelessness, disability, aged-care, child-care, neighbourhood, and volunteer services.

Communicating in Recovery – 3 Workshops

The Communicating in Recovery workshop was targeted at community leaders and volunteers who play a role in communicating with members of the public across the Hobart, Kingborough, Glenorchy, and Derwent Valley areas.

The workshop aims to assist participants to:

  • communicate more effectively after an emergency

  • enhance their awareness of recovery communications

  • identify audiences and prioritise messages

  • network and share ideas.

A total 39 participants attended the three workshops, representing local government, community progress associations, and various cultural, community and religious groups.

This project has been jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
